Notes and Essays consists of:

• Notes and essays, usually in John Walker's hand, and what appear to be fair copies of book mss. never published, at least in that form. These assorted papers contain reading notes in natural history; clippings in sciences like chemistry, geology (especially mineralogy), and ornithology, quasi-sciences like geography and early psychology, and pseudo-sciences like astrology; economic valuation of natural resources; natural wonders, antiquities, and folklore; travellogues; statistical rundown of the parish of 'Collington'; people in the field of natural history; heraldry and the peerage; literature and contemporary poetry; and many volumes of plant and animal taxonomy.
