Biographical History

Robert Jameson was Professor of Natural History at Edinburgh for fifty years. He looked after the University's Natural History Collection and expanded its holdings immensely, and he explored and published in geology, mineralogy, zoology and botany, particulary in Scotland. He also presided over the Wernerian Natural History Society and edited the Edinburgh Philosophical Journal.

Notes consists of:

  • a wrapped packet of papers that includes a mineralogical description of the county of Dumfries and a revision of his System of Mineralogy.
  • a wrapped packet made up mostly of miscellaneous mss. and printed extracts in geology and mineralogy, such as from the Edinburgh Evening Courant, 23 December 1830.
  • a wrapped packet labelled 'proof sheets' from 1837, which is relating to mineralogy.
