Biographical History |
Sir Archibald Geikie joined the Geological Survey in 1855 as a mapping assistant. In 1867 he was appointed as the first Director in Scotland of the Geological Survey of Great Britain. In 1881 he was appointed the Geological Survey director-general for Great Britain. In the course of his work, Geikie compiled notes and drawings of places he visited and their geological features. Initially these were Scottish locations but in later years areas of England, Wales and Ireland also feature as well as Russia and Greece. |
