Scope and Content

Scope and Content

Letter to Sir Archibald Geikie from Capt Clarence Edward Dutton thanking him for his comments on his memoir The Charleston Earthquake of August 31, 1886, (1889) telling him that he is now employed by the War Department rather then the United States Geological Survey. He expresses dismay that he is being transferred to Texas from Washington, where he can see no role for himself. He tells Geikie that he is considering writing a cowboy novel or possibly an historical novel about Davy Crockett. He expresses regret that he will not be able to attend a geologist's Congress meeting in Washington which Geikie is to attend, due to his change in career.
