Scope and Content

Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from Sir Isaac Bayley Balfour welcoming Bower back to Glasgow and commiserating with him both on his experiences in the journey back from Australia and on the cancellation of his collecting trip. He remarks that people's thoughts must have been concentrated on the fight for national life rather than the topics of science and he tells Bower that 58 of Balfour's staff were off fighting.
