Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from William Henry Lang thanking Bower for replying to his enquiry regarding the date and location of the first meeting between David Thomas Gwynne-Vaughan and Robert Kidston. He thinks that Scott's recollection that they first met in Gwynne-Vaughan's rooms at Cambridge is probably correct as it fits with the dates of the papers but none of them have a clear recollection of the meeting. He sympathises with Bower's family and health troubles and mentions that the new term was due to start, remarking "it is difficult to take kindly to talking about Pteridophyta (a fern) to an advanced class which is almost wholly female". He also described his holiday which consisted of 5 days research with Kidston into Devonian fossils and a week with Helen Charlotte Isabella Gwynne-Vaughan as they went through the papers of her late husband, He describes the papers and their dilemma as to whether to publish them or not. |
