Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from Allan Smith in which he discusses the situation surrounding the lists of candidates [for the Royal Society]. He claims that he did not receive the list of candidates until after he returned home from the meeting in London and that he protested at the meeting in London that members who did not live in London and who sometimes made long and expensive journeys to attend meetings were not getting the information in time. He apologises for not being able to help B's case but states that it was impossible when he was sitting on the physiology committee which already had several strong candidates. He remarks that it might have been easier if he had been sitting on the Zoology meeting. He states that the present contribution of the zoology committee presents a stumbling block and that candidates in fields outside the mainstream of any of the committee's activities stand a poor chance. |
