Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from E Stewart in which he updates Bower on his progress on the lichen investigation for which Bower had recommended him. He spent 12 days touring the highlands and saw a lot of Lecanora vartarea and other plants of use in the production of dyes. He has sent specimens of plants to TS Patterson and reports to the Board of Agriculture and received payment of expenses and a note of thanks in return. He states that he understands the Board of agriculture has put a London firm in touch with lichen supply in order to produce dyes commercially and that TS Patterson is working on the chemistry of the project. He thanks Bower for recommending him and thus opening up a new area of botany for him. |
