Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from William Gibson Farlow describing his recent holiday in Britain and Europe which took place just as war broke out and was disasterous due to the war and the ill health of his wife and himself. He remarks that the war is the main topic of conversation in the US and tells Bower that all the women are knitting for the troops in battle. He expresses the general anti-German sentiment felt in America and tells a story of a German professor who he describes as a violent propagandist who had tried unsuccessfully to defend Germany's position to a group of students at Amhurst College. |
