Scope and Content

Scope and Content

Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from Joseph Doyle concerning his current researches on gymnosperms in larix by which he hopes to prove a connection with the podocarp line. He discussses John McLean Thompson's theory on podocarp cones, which he believes is almost certainly wrong, and asks Bower if there has been an example of a fern, "normally one of the superficials, carrying any sporangia however abnormally on the upper surface without some peculiar second development on the leaf". He also asks for a note from Bower stating that [Elizabeth J Leonard's] work was done under his supervision and was worthy of permanent record.
