Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from William Gibson Farlow in which he thanks Bower for looking up the Madagascar fern for him. He describes his search to discover what it is and concludes that it may be a Hydrostachys flamosum. He asks Bower to confirm this if he has time. He tells Bower that their cold snap lasted nine weeks before thawing but said that it is expected to grow cold again. There is little coal and little food, he describes the shortages and his regimented diet. He informs Bower that Cambridge is full of soldiers who look stong and healthy and are well behaved. His only objection to them is that they are constantly smoking cigarettes and throwing the stubs away which have caused several fires. He asks Bower if he has read Dukinfield Henry Scott's review of the book by Edward C Jeffrey. |
