Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from T Anderson concerning possible job opportunities for Donald Patton. He states that there is unlikely to be any suitable openings at the Board of Agriculture for Scotland as Inspectorships there have been reserved for men with agricultural degrees but that the new plant registration and seed testing station and proposed national plant breeding station may provide opportunities. He expresses the need to establish intensive courses leading to degrees or diplomas in biology as it is applied to agricultural science, developments in Britain and abroad such as Sweden, Denmark, the United States and Canada, have highlighted this need. He believes that current agricultural courses do not provide enough training in applied botany, mycology, plant genetics and entomology and he states that he hopes Bower would support any proposals of this nature if laid before the senate of the University of Glasgow. |
