Scope and Content

Scope and Content

Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from Daniel Paul Montague, Queen's University of Belfast, stating that he had hoped to visit both Bower and his own 'people' in Glasgow in the near future. He has waited too long and a new session is due to begin so his plans have been delayed until probably Christmas.

Montague informs Bower of research he has undertaken, entitled A Study of Regeneration in Triticum vulgare, working with wheat. He likes the fact the fact 'we have got in ahead of Klebs and Goebel and their Teutonic School' and he asks Bower for advice on publishing his work and whether it may be worth a doctorate from the University of Edinburgh. In Ireland someone without a doctorate is not thought highly of. Presenting it as a thesis to the University of London is another consideration as are the Annals of Botany and the Royal Irish Academy

He comments on progress of the First World War.
