Scope and Content |
Letter to Frederick Orpen Bower from Sir David Prain citing the 'second declaration' from members of German academia regarding their relationship with 'Prussian militarism'. He believes that 'German science was as heartily on for conquest as the German General Staff' and presumes that this has been issued as a response to a manifesto produced by some Britsh scientific and literary men which was itself a reply to the manifesto of the 'famous 93'. There are 3125 signatures, including Goebel. Prain does not think it worth bothering about German who are foreign members of various societies. He thanks Bower for sending copies of his studies on the 'Phylogeny of the Filicales' and also informs Bower that he will be sending a list of names to both the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. |
