Notes by Frederick Orpen Bower on the thesis by Robert John Harvey-Gibson. He describes Harvey-Gibson's paper on the history of botany as a "scholarly work giving a highly interesting and graphic picture of the advance of the science from classical times" and the papers on the fern genus Selaginella as having long been "known as a source of detailed information...which now form part of the web of accepted fact." He recommends that the University of Aberdeen award the degree of Doctor of Science to Harvey-Gibson.
