John Ferguson received a number of testimonials as a candidate for the Chair of Chemistry at the University of Glasgow. He also published a number of scientific articles, including: Some Early Treatises on Technology Chemistry, Supplement V, (1916) . John Maclean Thompson was one of a number of authors who wrote a biographical article/obituary on John Ferguson, his one being Professor John Ferguson, (1918).
