Administrative History |
In 1845 Archibald and Robert Edmiston and Alexander Mitchell set up in partnership in Glasgow as Edmiston and Mitchells. They were initially ship owners who carried cargo to the eastern seaboard of North America and returned with shipments of timber. They also imported timber from the Baltic States and Indochina. At a later date the ships were sold to concentrate on acting as timber agents and brokers. They undertook trade with most of the timber merchants in Scotland, which is still the focus of their operations. They originally traded from offices in a number of locations in Glasgow. The firm is now run by a father and son-in-law duo from their offices in Polmont. |
