Biographical History

Biographical History

Barr & Stroud maintained an extensive collection of images of items relating to their work. These include images of the many products they manufactured, such as radar equipment, rangefinders, binoculars, telescopes, periscopes, cameras and other optical instruments and also components within them. As electronic technology developed, this is reflected in increasing numbers of images of electronic components.

There are images of the ariel survey equipment (such as topographical stereoscopes and photonymographs). Other products such as cinematographical equipment for the Alliance Cinematograph Co, and the Beardmore Precision motor-cycle also feature.

Images were also held of the company's premises, members of its workforce and its manufacturing equipment. In addition there were local scenes and various other subjects relating directly and indirectly to their business.

A further set of photographs were collected together for the publication of Range and Vision, (1988).

The indexes relate both to this series and to the Negatives series: GB 0248 UGD 295/7
