Hugh Bryan Nisbet's position as principal of Heriot-Watt College, and later Heriot-Watt University, often required him to address various local organisations, schools and professional conferences. His principal themes were the relation between science and the humanities, the idea of a technological university and the role of imagination and belief in science. He was also required to give speeches to the students of Heriot-Watt College and these usually contained exhortations to work hard and do well and words of praise upon the attainment of qualifications. |
